How to Build Your Food Reserves on a Limited Budget
Whether you are concerned about inflation of food prices, potential food shortages, disaster preparedness, or feeding yourself and your family on a budget, increasing numbers of people throughout the world are becoming serious about putting together their own food reserves.
Getting self-sufficient with your food is a good idea, no matter your political or religious views. If you’re reading this article, chances are you are already sold on the concept! So if you are one of the millions of Americans scraping by in today’s tough economy, how can you put your food reserve together and still pay your bills each month? I was in exactly such a situation 2 years ago.
I had a wake-up call in my life that caused me to get really serious really quickly about emergency preparedness and food storage. I was barely making ends meet from month to month. I took a few steps that helped me get enough food to last me almost 2 years within 6 months. In the remainder of this article, I’ll share what I did.
Step 1. Decide what you need to get. What will you eat? What is nutritionally ideal for you and your family? What is storable and cost-effective? Compile a list of items you want to get (you can find information all over the internet telling you how many lbs. of each item will last an adult for a year).
Dried beans, rice, wheat/spelt, oats, vegetable oil, salt, sugar/honey, powdered milk (which I’m not personally a fan of), spices, dehydrated and canned vegetables and fruits, dehydrated soups and meals, etc…, are important items to consider.
Step 2. Decide where to buy these items for the best price. Honeyville Grains, CostCo, sales at the grocery store, and LDS canneries are all places to consider. Shop around, and find the best deals in your area.
Step 3. Set aside a percentage of your income in a special account for your food reserves and emergency supplies (5-10%). Even if you start really small, this will gain steam. If you make just $2,000/mo. and set aside 5% of your income, that’s still $100 per month. This is the step where, if you are struggling financially, some faith is required! At this point I highly recommend you have a chat with God and ask him to help you do this. He helped me, and I have no doubt he’ll help you too if you ask.
The end result of me going through each of these 3 steps was that I was able to buy over $1,000 in food and supplies within the next 6 months!
There is one more step I am now taking to continually add to my food reserves monthly. Not only am I paid for this, but you can be too!
Step 4. Join a system where you can get paid to promote and gather food storage. Sundance Global is the only company I am aware of where by sharing with friends and family and helping them get storable meals, you can get weekly checks as you build your food reserves and help others build theirs.
With these four steps, I firmly believe there every single person serious about getting their food storage will be able to do so. Take action. Have faith. You will succeed!
